North Maewo is one of the least-visited inhabited places in Vanuatu — there is no road connecting it to the rest of the island, no accommodation, and the only access is by foot trail or canoe along the coast. The island as a whole receives a handful of visitors per year, mostly yachts passing through. The kastom here is essentially unmodified, with traditional authority structures governing every aspect of community life including interaction with outsiders. A foreign man has no entry point here at all.

There's genuine friendliness in Vanuatu, but friendliness and social access are different things.
