Ninh Kieu is the urban core of Can Tho, the economic capital of the Mekong Delta, and it punches above its weight for a city this size. The Ninh Kieu riverside promenade runs along the Hau River and draws locals every evening — it's one of the few cities in Vietnam outside Saigon and Hanoi where the downtown has real street energy after dark. Can Tho University keeps a younger demographic cycling through, and the tourist-to-local ratio is thin enough that a Western face here still registers as unusual rather than routine. You're not fighting backpacker fatigue the way you would in Hoi An.
