BìnhThuỷ
8.5
High score (8-10) · Your profile
Binh Thuy is where Can Tho International Airport sits, and the district has a quieter, more spread-out residential character than downtown Ninh Kieu. The Binh Thuy Ancient House — a 19th-century French colonial villa that was used in the filming of The Lover — is one of the better-preserved examples of the Vietnamese-French hybrid architecture from that era. The district is pleasant to live in, housing prices are lower than Ninh Kieu, and you're 15 minutes from the city center. Not much social life of its own, but a solid base for someone who wants to be in Can Tho without being in the thick of it.
Mid score (6-8)
Binh Thuy reads as a residential suburb — wide-ish roads, local markets, some manufacturing on the edges near the river. The expat footprint is essentially zero; a few long-term foreign residents and whoever is transiting through the airport. The district doesn't have a bar street or a café cluster or a night market — social life here means knowing locals personally or commuting to Ninh Kieu. Comfortable enough to live in, but you're not discovering anything here.
Lower score (below 6)
Binh Thuy has an airport and a colonial villa and not much else for an outsider. The district is suburban Vietnam in the fullest sense — functional, quiet, and not remotely oriented toward anyone who didn't grow up there. Without a car or motorbike you're isolated, and even with one, there's nothing in Binh Thuy itself that warrants the trip from Ninh Kieu. If you're just passing through Can Tho for a night near the airport, fine — otherwise skip it.
