Ea Sup is massive geographically — one of Dak Lak's largest districts — and the Ea Sup reservoir is a real piece of infrastructure serving irrigation across the western province. The district was heavily settled by government migration programs in the 1980s and 90s pushing Kinh farmers into frontier forest land near Cambodia, and those settlers built working agricultural communities. A foreign man here is so unusual that novelty alone opens doors, though there are very few doors to open.
