Boconó has earned a genuine identity as Venezuela's cut-flower capital — the region supplies flowers to much of the country and the town has a slightly more organized, entrepreneurial culture than most Andean towns because of it. There's a small arts and crafts scene and local festivals that create natural social moments without requiring much engineering. The cool mountain climate at around 1,200 meters is actually pleasant compared to the heat elsewhere in Venezuela. For a foreigner passing through, there are real conversations to be had here.
