Turén

Lower score (below 6)
Turén was the site of Venezuela's most ambitious mid-20th century agricultural colonization project — Colonia Turén — which brought thousands of Portuguese and Spanish immigrants under Pérez Jiménez to develop rice and corn cultivation in the llanos, and their descendants are still visible in the local culture and surnames. That history makes it ethnically distinct from most of Portuguesa, but it is still a working agricultural town whose economy has been battered by the same collapse that hit Venezuela broadly. The town has some commercial activity and a slightly more varied population than purely indigenous Venezuelan communities, but limited nightlife or social infrastructure for an outsider. More interesting historically than it is socially useful.
