Pierce
6.6
High score (8-10)
Pierce County's Tacoma has undergone a genuine transformation from its old reputation as Seattle's rougher sibling — the Stadium District, Proctor neighborhood, and the Foss Waterway area now have a legitimate food and bar scene that attracts people who've been priced out of Seattle but didn't want to leave the Puget Sound urban environment. Joint Base Lewis-McChord makes Pierce County one of the most military-dense counties in the entire country, with 40,000+ active duty personnel — which means a huge population of people in their 20s and 30s without local roots who are actively socializing. The University of Washington Tacoma campus brings in students and the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed civic campus gives Tacoma a surprising cultural infrastructure. For a man who can present well and doesn't need Seattle's name on the door, Pierce County is a legitimate strong play.
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Pierce County is large and socially diverse — Tacoma proper, the JBLM military world, suburban Puyallup and Bonney Lake, and rural Pierce County all function differently. The military social world has its own hierarchy and rules. Tacoma's gentrification has improved some neighborhoods significantly while leaving others unchanged. Puyallup and the suburban eastern county are standard American suburb with limited social infrastructure.
Lower score (below 6)
Parts of Pierce County — Spanaway, Parkland, and the areas immediately surrounding JBLM — have the social dynamics of lower-income military sprawl without the infrastructure or culture of Tacoma proper. Fife and Milton are industrial areas with minimal social life. The county's size means you can be somewhere genuinely bleak without realizing you've left the good parts. Tacoma's residual reputation still keeps some women from wanting to be associated with the area.
