Brunswick
6.4
High score (8-10)
Brunswick County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, with beach communities at Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, and Sunset Beach drawing retirees and tourists up and down the East Coast. Southport is a genuinely appealing small waterfront city with a working fishing pier and a real downtown. Leland — a Wilmington suburb — is filling up with young families and professionals. Proximity to Wilmington puts a full city within fifteen minutes.
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Brunswick County is growing fast but it's sprawling in the way of new suburbs — Leland in particular is all new construction and chain restaurants. The beach towns are seasonal and the off-season is quiet. Southport is the most livable core town. Good if you're willing to trade scene for cost relative to Wilmington proper.
Lower score (below 6)
Outside of Southport and the beach communities in summer, Brunswick County is strip malls and retirement developments without a real social infrastructure. The growth is real but it's suburban and family-oriented. Most social life happens across the bridge in Wilmington. Limited as a standalone social environment.
