Hudson County is the most interesting county in New Jersey by a significant margin — Jersey City has gone through a full transformation over the past 15 years into a genuine urban hub with a young professional base, a real restaurant and bar scene, and PATH train access to Manhattan in under 10 minutes. Hoboken is densely packed with 20-something finance and tech workers and the social scene there moves fast. Union City has the largest Cuban-American population outside Miami, adding a cultural layer most people don't expect this close to New York. As a foreign man with a strong profile, the county's constant influx of NYC transplants and international finance workers means being from outside the area is neutral to positive — nobody here is asking where you're from.

Hudson County has real energy — Jersey City's waterfront and downtown have become genuine alternatives to Manhattan for young professionals, and Hoboken runs a compact social scene that's active year-round. Union City and West New York have a dense Latin American community that's been here for decades. Real estate has gotten expensive fast, which is pushing out some of the diversity that made it interesting. Still one of the better counties in NJ if you want urban social life without Manhattan prices.

The Latin communities in Union City and Kearny are tight-knit and not particularly porous to outsiders. The county is expensive, crowded, and the easy social access has limits.
