Vanderburgh
7.4
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Evansville is southwestern Indiana's main city (117,000 people), with a real downtown that includes the Ford Center arena, a riverfront on the Ohio, and both the University of Southern Indiana and University of Evansville in town. The city runs more Southern in character than most of Indiana — geographically closer to Nashville, Tennessee than to Indianapolis — and the social culture reflects that. There's a bar and restaurant scene, a developing Warehouse District arts area, and enough university population to keep things from being entirely insular. Not Indianapolis, but functional for a visiting outsider who gives it a few days.
