The Illinois side of the Quad Cities — Moline, Rock Island, East Moline — is part of a real metro of about 400,000 people straddling the Iowa border. John Deere is headquartered in Moline, which anchors the economy and brings engineering and professional talent from elsewhere. The Quad Cities has a functioning bar and restaurant scene, an arts district, and enough critical mass to support genuine social options.
