Popasna was a city of about 20,000 people that became one of the most completely destroyed settlements in the 2022 war. Russian forces captured it in May 2022 after weeks of intense fighting, and satellite imagery showed the city was roughly 80% destroyed by the time it fell. It has been described as one of the most devastated urban areas in the conflict.
