If you're a serious hiker or want a genuinely uncrowded high-altitude trek, the Uganda side of Mount Elgon National Park is legitimately underrated — the caldera is one of the largest extinct volcanic craters in the world and the trail sees a fraction of the traffic that comparable East African parks do. Uganda Wildlife Authority has improved the infrastructure at entry points like Budadiri and Kapkwai in recent years, and guides here are competent and affordable. It's a real experience for someone who actually wants the mountain.

Trekking logistics require a night or two in Budadiri before heading in, and the park itself has basic bandas for overnight stays on the trail. It's functional but bare-bones.
