Kisoro
8.0
High score (8-10)
Kisoro is the base for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and sits right on the Rwanda-DRC tri-border area — the town has a highland freshness and is genuinely less crowded than Kabale. The golden monkey tracking here is an underrated experience and the local Batwa community has genuine cultural depth. A foreign man who does his homework can have a more authentic experience here than at busier gorilla hubs.
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Kisoro is a small highland town at the tip of Uganda's southwest corner — the border location makes it logistically interesting for Rwanda/DRC crossings but the town itself has limited amenities. The gorilla and golden monkey tracking are excellent. Everything else requires managing expectations.
Lower score (below 6)
Without primate tracking as your reason for being here, Kisoro is extremely remote with very limited accommodation options and a small, traditional community not set up for casual tourism. Beautiful area, but plan carefully.
