Afgooye sits about 30km from Mogadishu and was once Somalia's banana basket, but that agricultural output collapsed decades ago and the district has been a flashpoint for Al-Shabaab raids and clan militia clashes ever since. During the 2011 famine it hosted one of the largest IDP concentrations on earth — hundreds of thousands camped along the Afgooye corridor — and that displacement pressure never fully resolved. Foreign civilians here are targets, not visitors, and there is no social scene, no infrastructure, and no legitimate reason an outsider would be operating outside of an armed convoy. Entirely off the table.
