Odobeşti is one of the three towns in Romania's Vrancea wine DOC and the most recognized wine-producing center in the county — the Fetească Albă and Galbenă de Odobeşti grape grown here are unique to this appellation. There's a modest wine-tourism infrastructure, a few family cellars that do tastings, and a small-town social scene that's slightly more open than surrounding communes because of the economic activity. That said, it's still a town of under 10,000 and most social life happens through family networks. A foreigner with genuine wine interest has a natural conversation opener that doesn't exist most places in Vrancea.
