Sfantu Gheorghe is where the southernmost Danube channel meets the Black Sea, and you can only get there by a two-hour-plus ferry from Tulcea — there are no roads in. The village has maybe 700 permanent residents who are mostly fishermen, plus seasonal guesthouses and a wild beach at the river mouth that draws surfers and kite-boarders in summer. In July-August there's a thin international visitor layer at the beach and the waterfront bars, and the combination of remoteness and natural beauty creates a genuinely different atmosphere from the rest of Romania. But the social pool is tiny, and outside peak summer the place is almost empty. A memorable stop on a Danube Delta trip, not a social destination.

The wild beach where the Danube meets the sea is striking, and the summer visitor crowd is a mix of Romanian and occasional Western tourists doing the delta. A foreign man here in season has conversations; outside season there's nobody. A two-day stop in August, nothing more.
