Cicarlau is one of the few Maramures communes with actual wine production — vineyards here have regional recognition dating to the Habsburg period — which gives it slightly more economic stability than purely subsistence agricultural communes. The vineyards are visible from the road near Baia Mare but there is zero visitor infrastructure built around them. More economically stable than average but equally socially closed.
