Independencia
8.1
Mid score (6-8)
Independencia is one of Paraguay's most unusual rural towns — founded by European immigrants, mainly German and Austrian, in the early-to-mid 20th century, and it still shows in the architecture and family names scattered across the area. It produces the only commercial wine in Paraguay, which draws some weekend agrotourism from Asunción and gives the place a slightly different feel from standard Paraguayan campo. For a foreign man, you're unlikely to find any real social scene on a normal day — the population is small and mostly agricultural — but the oddity factor is real. Worth a day trip from Villarrica, not a base.
