Tewae-Siassi covers a coastal strip near Finschhafen and the scattered Siassi Islands off the tip of the Huon Peninsula — the islanders have a documented history as skilled inter-island traders who ran a trading network across the Vitiaz Strait connecting PNG and West New Britain. Today the islands are quiet subsistence communities with a strong Lutheran mission presence and no tourist infrastructure. A foreign man arriving here is a genuine novelty, but novelty in a traditional island community with no accommodation and no social infrastructure translates to nothing useful.
