Kabwum sits deep in the Saruwaged Range — one of the most rugged mountain environments in PNG — and is only reliably reachable by small aircraft or a multi-day trek. The Kâte-speaking communities here have maintained traditional social structures more intact than most of Morobe Province, partly because the terrain kept external contact limited. A foreign man arriving here is an extreme novelty but that curiosity doesn't translate into social opportunity given the complete absence of infrastructure and the tight clan-based social world. There's nothing here for a visiting man.
