Alotau in Milne Bay has some of the best conditions for a foreign man in provincial PNG — the Kula Ring trading tradition means Milne Bay people have centuries of experience engaging with outsiders as commercial and social equals, the province has genuine tourism infrastructure around dive sites and island hopping, and the women from this part of PNG have a cultural openness that's distinct from both the Highlands and Port Moresby. The Leisure Lodge and the Alotau waterfront area are functional social spaces.
