Pilar is on the western coast of Siargao Island and picks up some of the island's tourism energy through isolation resorts that have opened in recent years, but the town itself has no social scene and the tourist presence is thin. Being on Siargao Island means there is at least some precedent for foreign visitors, but Pilar is not where any of the island's social life happens. The advantage of being on Siargao without the prices exists only on a spreadsheet.
