Sayulita and the Riviera Nayarit coast have a well-developed surf-and-expat social scene that's been building for 20 years — it's genuinely easy to meet people here. Sayulita in particular functions as a social hub where locals, long-term expats, and travelers mix at beach bars and surf spots with very low social friction. San Pancho (San Francisco) is slightly more subdued but has an artistic community that's warm to engaged outsiders. The cost of living is reasonable, English is widely spoken in tourist areas, and the outdoor lifestyle creates constant social opportunity.
