Morelia is the most sophisticated city in Michoacán and one of the finest colonial cities in western Mexico — the UNESCO-protected historic center is built in rose-colored cantero stone and the main cathedral anchors a genuine urban culture. Two major universities (UMSNH and a UNAM satellite) create a substantial educated female population who are specifically interested in meeting people from outside their immediate world. Has real restaurants, a music conservatory, art galleries, bars, and a nightlife scene. The state capital function means professional women from across Michoacán concentrate here. A foreign man here is interesting but not shocking — there are enough exchange students and expats that you're socially legible.
