Valle de Bravo operates on an entirely different economic register than anything else in Estado de México — the lake, the colonial streets, and the weekend paragliding scene have made it the primary second-home destination for wealthy Mexico City families, and the social environment on weekends is the actual upper-middle class of CDMX displaced into a beautiful mountain resort setting. The Club de Vela (sailing club) is active, the restaurants by the water compete with good CDMX spots, and the established international expat community of mostly European and American retirees and remote workers has given the town a cosmopolitan undercurrent. A well-positioned foreign man visiting on weekends finds one of the highest-quality social environments in the entire state.

Valle de Bravo's social life is sharply seasonal and weekly — the CDMX crowd arrives Friday afternoon and leaves Sunday night, and the town between visits is a quiet village where the permanent population (largely service workers and Mazahua artisans) has nothing to do with the weekend scene. The rainy season from June to October reduces both the visibility (fog) and the tourism significantly. Based there full-time requires accepting that the version of the town you came for only appears two days a week.
