Tlatlaya is a remote municipality in the extreme southwestern corner of Estado de México bordering Guerrero, and it became internationally known in 2014 when the Mexican army shot 22 people in what human rights investigations concluded were extrajudicial executions. The security environment near the Guerrero border is genuinely complicated and the economic conditions are severe. There is no reason for a foreign man to be here.
