Capulhuac is specifically known for two things: barbacoa de borrego (whole lamb slow-cooked in underground pits wrapped in maguey leaves) and leather/sheepskin goods — both are genuinely excellent and the weekend market draws buyers from across the Toluca Valley. A foreign man stopping here for a few hours eats well and possibly buys quality leather at very reasonable prices. The town has enough charm for a half-day visit.

Capulhuac's leather goods market is legitimate — sheepskin jackets, bags, and saddles have been made here for generations and the quality-to-price ratio is real. The barbacoa market on Sunday mornings is also worth the visit. But the municipality is a market town rather than a social environment, and beyond these specific offerings it's a working-class corridor stop on the road south of Toluca.
