San Sebastián del Oeste is a beautifully preserved silver mining colonial town in the mountains north of Puerto Vallarta at 1,700 meters elevation — it was one of the wealthiest communities in colonial New Spain and the architecture reflects that. Getting more tourism as Puerto Vallarta expands its highland circuit. A foreigner here has the novelty of being in a genuinely off-track destination with infrastructure.
