Marquelia is a small Costa Chica municipality south of Ometepec with beach access and a predominantly Amuzgo and mestizo population. The coast here along the stretch between Ometepec and the Oaxaca border is raw Pacific with no tourism infrastructure — massive waves, black sand beaches in some areas, and fishing villages that live on their own schedule. A man who wants wild coast with zero tourists and can handle no infrastructure finds an experience here that's disappeared from most of Mexico.
