Jesús María is one of the more interesting smaller municipalities in the state because of its strong winery and tequila-adjacent mezcal culture — the area produces both and has a handful of producers who host visitors. A foreign man who shows genuine interest in the agave or wine production gets immediate traction with educated local families involved in that industry. The town has a little more economic sophistication than pure ag towns.
