Casablanca

High score (8-10) · Your profile
Casablanca's professional class — the women working in finance, marketing, and law in Maarif and Gauthier — operate on a completely different social logic than the rest of Morocco. French is the default language in these circles, alcohol is unremarkable, and a foreign man who presents well economically gets genuine attention rather than suspicion. The Ain Diab corniche runs about 5km of beach clubs, bars, and restaurants where mixed-gender socializing happens openly on any given weekend. If you're going to spend time in Morocco and you have resources, this is where those resources translate most directly.
Mid score (6-8)
Casablanca runs on economic logic, and foreign men who fit the professional image get real traction in the westernized circles around Maarif, Gauthier, and Ain Diab. The city's social scene is split sharply between the secular upper-middle class and a much larger conservative majority — you can spend a week in one without touching the other. The old medina here is small and unglamorous compared to Fes or Marrakech, so the city's value is entirely in its modern side. Traction is real but thinner than the city's size suggests, and the street-level hustle in poorer neighborhoods gets old fast.
Lower score (below 6)
Outside the Maarif bubble and the Corniche clubs, Casablanca is a grinding, car-choked city of four million where conservative social norms dominate for most of the population. The economic desperation visible within a few blocks of the business district creates a transactional dynamic in any interaction, and it's hard to tell who's actually interested versus who sees a foreign wallet. The Hassan II Mosque and the art deco architecture are genuinely impressive, but those don't translate into social access. Without money and a specific entrée into the right circles, the city is loud, exhausting, and closed.
