Sefrou is only 28km south of Fès but has a completely different feel — it's a small market town that historically had one of Morocco's largest Jewish communities before emigration, which left behind an unusually cosmopolitan local memory and a population slightly more accustomed to cultural mixing than comparable towns. The weekly Thursday market draws Berber traders from the surrounding hills and creates real social energy.
