El Jadida is the coastal gem of this region — a former Portuguese fortress town with a working fishing port and a real local beach scene that draws Casablancans in summer. That seasonal influx of urban Moroccans creates a social environment that's more open than the region's agricultural interior would suggest. The Portuguese fortifications and Atlantic coast make for a genuinely good backdrop and the crowd is more educated and city-minded than most of the region.

El Jadida has enough appeal — beach, history, Casablancan summer crowd — to make it worthwhile, but outside of peak summer season it goes quiet fast and the social scene collapses back to provincial norms.
