Kayts (Uruthirapuram) has a Dutch-era fort that's largely in ruins but still photogenic, and the island's relative isolation means the few foreign visitors who do make it there get genuine attention from locals who don't see many outsiders. The ferry ride itself through the Jaffna lagoon is one of the more pleasant short boat trips in northern Sri Lanka. If you're the type who finds value in being genuinely unusual in a place, Kayts delivers that.
