Gokseong
8.0
High score (8-10)
Gokseong's steam train through the Seomjin River valley is a genuinely beautiful day trip that brings couples and families through, and the surrounding mountain scenery is legitimately good. If you're doing a slow South Korea itinerary and want a day of river scenery and melon wine (Gokseong is Korea's melon county), it delivers. Just don't expect to stay.
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Known for a tourist steam train and melon agriculture, Gokseong is a rural county of about 27,000 with limited reasons to stay beyond a day of scenery. The train ride itself is pleasant and domestic tourists come specifically for it. Outside of that single attraction the county is a farming community with conservative culture and nothing open in the evening.
Lower score (below 6)
A farming county of 27,000 where the main tourist draw is a steam train ride between two small towns. Deeply conservative, heavily agricultural, no foreign presence to speak of, and functionally nothing happening after 5pm. The kind of place you pass through on a slow travel route, not a place you operate from.
