Yeongju
7.7
High score (8-10)
Yeongju is the center of Korea's ginseng industry — Punggi ginseng from this area is genuinely the prestige variety, and the city's identity is built around it. Sosuseowon, a 16th-century Confucian academy nearby, was among the first UNESCO-listed Korean seowon. The city has a small university (Sobaek University) and sits at the head of the Sobaek Mountain range. Traditional in character, but with some cultural tourism draw.
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Yeongju's ginseng economy and Confucian heritage give it a clear identity, but that identity is deeply conservative and locally oriented. The university provides a small younger population, but Yeongju is the kind of place where family name and local roots matter more than anywhere else. Workable if you're teaching or studying here, slow otherwise.
Lower score (below 6)
Yeongju is deeply traditional, politically conservative (this province routinely delivers some of Korea's most lopsided conservative vote margins), and oriented entirely around its ginseng economy and Confucian institutions. Outsiders take a long time to be accepted here. The social walls are thick and the dating pool is thin.
