If you're passing through or posted here for work reasons, the newer apartment-and-commercial corridors around Cheomdan aren't as dead as the district's outer edge suggests. Low floor, but the tech worker crowd provides occasional social openings.

Gwangsan-gu is Gwangju's westernmost and largest district — sprawling new-build residential with the airport, some light industry, and the Cheomdan tech zone. The Cheomdan area has a younger professional demographic that edges slightly more cosmopolitan than the rest of the city, but the district as a whole is suburban in feel and low on the kind of spontaneous social infrastructure that makes a place easy to work as an outsider. Fine if work or accommodation puts you here; not a reason to choose it.
