Suong is the provincial capital of Tboung Khmum and by far the most functional town in the province — it has actual guesthouses, a busy market, roadside restaurants, and some nightlife spots that attract Cambodians from across the region. The town grew fast after the province was carved out from Kampong Cham in 2013 and has some new money and government workers who create a more socially open environment than the farming districts. A foreign man here has real visibility and the economic contrast plays well — you're unusual but not alarming. Best base in the province if you're exploring the area.

Workable if you put in effort; frustrating if you expect things to come to you. Good logistics hub for eastern Cambodia.
