Nichinan in western Tottori (not to be confused with the Miyazaki city) is a mountain town near the iron sand production areas that historically defined Chugoku's economy. It's genuinely remote, but the regional revitalization effort here has attracted a small cohort of young people from cities who came for the countryside-reset lifestyle — and that cohort is more open to outsiders than the long-term local population.
