Wazuka

Lower score (below 6)
Wazuka is a town of about 4,000 people in the mountains of southeastern Kyoto that produces some of Japan's finest gyokuro tea, and the terraced tea fields photographed all over Kyoto Prefecture tourism materials often come from here. That landscape pulls the occasional photographer or curious traveler but the town has zero social infrastructure — a few small restaurants, no bars, an aging and shrinking population. Visitors shoot and leave the same day for good reason. A foreign man here has nowhere to go and almost no one to meet outside of very deliberate effort.
