Oshu is the proposed site of the International Linear Collider (ILC), a major international physics research facility — if built, it would bring thousands of foreign researchers and their families to this area, and the city has been actively preparing international infrastructure in anticipation. Maesawa wagyu beef from here has national recognition and is served in high-end Tokyo restaurants.
