Takinoue
6.9
Lower score (below 6)
Takinoue in northern Okhotsk has built its identity around shibazakura — pink moss phlox (Phlox subulata) planted across a hillside that blooms in late May and early June, creating a pink carpet effect that's been photographed so much it's become a bucket-list spot for domestic tourists. The Takinoue Shibazakura Park draws enormous numbers during the three-week bloom. Outside that window the town of around 2,500 reverts to its farming character with no social life. The pink hillside is real; nothing else is.
