Rishirifuji is the larger of the two administrative towns on Rishiri Island, covering the western coast where the main ferry terminal operates. The premium konbu diving and harvesting culture here is taken extremely seriously — divers go down for Rishiri konbu in specific seasons and the kelp commands the highest prices in Japan. The community is small fishing families completely oriented around the harvest cycle. Same conditions as Rishiri town — remote, beautiful, closed.
