Oshamanbe is a small Oshima town of around 5,000 on the southern shores of Uchiura Bay, historically a fishing and logging community. The town is known locally for namako (sea cucumber) fishing and processing. The JR Hakodate Main Line passes through and the town has a small station, but there's no reason to disembark. Functional fishing community with no social infrastructure for an outsider.
