Kikonai
8.8
Lower score (below 6)
Kikonai is a small Oshima town near the southern tip of Hokkaido where the Seikan Tunnel — the world's longest undersea railway tunnel connecting Hokkaido to Honshu — surfaces on the Hokkaido side. The Shinkansen extension also passes through here now. Despite this infrastructure significance the town itself at around 6,000 is a small fishing and farming community with minimal social infrastructure. Transit significance doesn't translate into social opportunity.
