Kamikawa town (not to be confused with Kamikawa subprefecture) is a small interior Hokkaido community of around 3,500 in the upper Kamikawa basin surrounded by national park. The Daisetsuzan National Park is nearby and the town serves as a staging point for hikers. The seasonal outdoor tourism (hiking in summer, backcountry skiing in winter) creates some transient social traffic but the year-round resident community is small and self-contained. Functional for accessing the mountains; not a social base.
