Horokanai is a northern Kamikawa forestry village with under 1,400 residents, one of the smallest municipalities in Hokkaido. The economy is forestry and a little agriculture. There is essentially no social infrastructure at all — one or two small shops, a post office, a community hall. A foreign man here is working a forestry job, not building a social life. Extremely remote even by Hokkaido standards.
