Hokuryū

Hokuryū is a tiny Sorachi town of around 2,300 that became famous for sunflowers — the Hokuryū Sunflower Village plants over 1.5 million sunflowers across the hillsides and draws summer tourists who photograph them. The spectacle is genuine and draws big day-trip numbers from Sapporo in late July and August. Outside that six-week window the town is a quiet farming community with no social life. The sunflowers are worth seeing; the place itself offers nothing else.
