Kitakyūshū
7.3
Mid score (6-8) · Your profile
Kitakyushu is a genuine city of over 900,000 people anchored in heavy industry — the Yawata Steel Works (UNESCO World Heritage) defined it for a century and the working-class roots run deep. The Kokura district has a real bar and dining scene, and the Moji-ko Retro area draws enough visitors to normalize outside faces somewhat. The city has a blunter, more pragmatic character than Fukuoka — people are direct, not particularly impressed by novelty, and social access takes longer. A foreign man who speaks some Japanese and doesn't coast on curiosity factor can do alright in Kokura, but this city rewards effort more than profile.
